Usage notes translated from the manufacturer's manual: keep both the intake weight and the nozzle end submerged in the fuel while running - do not let the pump run dry. If the pump stalls, open the front cover and check for an obstruction first; a stall can trip the battery's protection circuit, which is cleared by recharging. If the pump runs for only a few seconds and then stops, the battery likely needs charging. Since it has a built-in Li-ion battery, do not store it fully drained - charging to about half before storage is best. The only user-serviceable point is the two screws on the nozzle end, which expose two small gears; do not open the pump any further, as this risks damaging the battery - send it in for repair instead.
